Custom Jewelry

Can I order an option or a custom design that isn't listed on your website?

Yes, I accept custom orders or alterations on existing designs! Please contact me if you are interested in a piece that you would like to have custom made, and let me know information like the item type, size, or any other important details. I look forward to working with you to make something you'll absolutely love!

Please note that due to the distinctiveness of the watercast and strawcast processes, any item using a preexisting shape cannot be exactly duplicated. If you would like to design a piece that contains watercast and/or strawcast elements based on an existing piece, the new piece will be similar in nature but not exactly the same.

How long does it take for a custom order?

Every custom is different and therefore I cannot set a specific time frame for how long a commission will take to create. Your best bet is to contact me at least two months prior to when you need your piece finished. This allows ample time for sketches, renderings, casting, finishing work, and shipping time.

What do you need to start a custom order?

In order to get a commission in the books, please reach out to me by sending an email to caitlinpauljewelry@gmail.com

In the email be sure to include your name and what type of jewelry you're looking for. Other helpful information to include would be metal type, stones, chain length, and occasion.

Please also note that a nonrefundable deposit of $50 is required to start any custom or commission. This deposit will be applied to your purchase, however if you decide to not proceed with the order the $50 is nonrefundable.

What is the payment structure for a custom order?

In order for me to start a custom order or commission I require an initial deposit of $50.00 USD. This allows me to start working on sketches and quotes. Once a design has been decided on, 50% of the total price for the piece is required minus the $50.00 initial deposit. Once the piece is finished the remaining balance of 50% is due before shipment.

Please note that the initial deposit of $50 is nonrefundable if you decide after receiving sketches and quotes that you'd no longer like to proceed with the order. Otherwise, this deposit will be applied to your purchase.

Can I return or exchange a custom order?

No, at this time custom orders are nonrefundable and cannot be exchanged due to the nature of the jewelry item being designed specifically for you.

Gift Packaging

I'm ordering jewelry as a gift. Do you offer special gift packaging?

Yes, gift packaging is available! Please be sure to specify when checking out if the purchase is shipping directly to the recipient of the gift or if it is going to the buyer.

If the order is being sent directly to the recipient, please include any gift message in the "notes to seller" prompt at time of checkout and it will be included on a gift tag within the jewelry packaging.

If the order is being sent to the buyer to gift at a later date, the gift packaging will include a jewelry box, tissue paper, gift bag and gift tag for easy gifting. Some jewelry designs may be too large too fit within a jewelry box, in which case the jewelry will be packaged in a velveteen pouch.

Jewelry Care

Can I swim or clean with my jewelry on?

I recommend removing your jewelry when swimming or cleaning.

Try to avoid bringing your jewelry into contact with harsh chemicals as they may react with the metals or stones in your jewelry. Over time chemicals such as chlorine can damage stones, cause your jewelry to tarnish or change colors, and can affect the durability of the metal by making it more brittle.

Can I wear my jewelry to the gym or while doing other activities?

Try to remove your jewelry before doing physical activity. This includes but is not limited to wearing your jewelry in the gym, in the pool, while gardening, etc. Keeping your jewelry on during these activities increases the chance of damaging your jewelry or causing it to wear out faster, especially rings.

Can I sleep with my jewelry on?

Try to remove all jewelry before bed, but especially anything with a chain; for example, a bracelet or necklace. The stress your body puts on the chain often leads to stretching of the chain links and will lead to breaks in the chain. Although chains will naturally stretch and thin over time, sleeping with your jewelry on can shorten the lifespan of your chain and cause them to need to be replaced more frequently.

My jewelry looks dull and doesn't sparkle like it used to. How do I restore its shine?

If your jewelry is looking dull or stones are looking foggy, it may be due to a build up of everyday dirt and grime from soaps, lotions, and skin cells. In this case, the best way to remove that build up is by lightly brushing the surface of the piece with a clean toothbrush after applying non-abrasive dish soap (for example, Dawn dish soap) and warm water.

Using a clean toothbrush that hasn't come into contact with toothpaste before is vital! Toothpaste is abrasive and may scratch the surface of the metal or stones.

My sterling silver looks to be discolored, how do I remove the tarnish?

Sterling silver will naturally oxidize or tarnish over time. In most cases using a jewelry polishing cloth can take off this tarnish and brighten the silver up like new. However, for jewelry with tarnish in hard to reach places, a liquid silver tarnish remover can be used. Please be sure to read and follow the directions on the bottle carefully, as certain stones (like pearls) are sensitive if exposed too long and can lead to further damage.

If you use a liquid silver tarnish remover, be sure to rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry. Then go over the piece with a polishing cloth to add back more shine.

Repairs

Do you offer repairs on items purchased from you?

Yes, I would be more than happy to repair any item purchased from me! It is normal for jewelry to need maintenance or repairs over time, and I want you to be able to enjoy your purchase for as long as possible!

If your piece needs to be repaired, please send me a message including a photo of the piece and description of the problem. Depending on the type and extent of the repair, I can provide a quote and work with you on fixing the issue or replacing the item.

Do you offer repairs on other jewelry not purchased from you?

With a background working as a professional repair and custom jeweler for more than 12 years, I can offer repairs on many types of pieces! If you have an item that needs repair, please send me a photo of the piece and a description of the problem. I will let you know if it is something I am able to repair, and if so I will provide a quote and work with you to fix the issue.
